Ewart Walters holds a master‘s degree in journalism from Carleton University. In the 1960s, he became the first black editor of the university‘s student newspaper. In 1964, he co-founded the West Indian Association of Ottawa among other community activities. In 1984, Walters started his own newspaper, The Spectrum. His many awards include three Seprod Awards for Excellence in Journalism and the Canada 125 Medal. He is the author of two books: Sugar Boy and To Follow Right.
